" One cannot escape the ironic, funny, grotesque aspect of SOUVENIRS. They often are a cliché - notion of a place in miniature. In this manner souvenirs are - like many clichés, a simplified, superficial and anachronistic, but sometimes very much ‘to the point’ vision on a certain place or event.
At the same time Souvenirs imply many issues that have a somewhat melancholic character: memory, sentiment, gone places and times, absence of someone...
I will ask each participant to bring along a few different sorts of souvenirs. We will discuss those objects, listening to the events the souvenirs belong to and try to analyze their "souvenir-characteristics".
As the title of the workshop implies, the journey does not have to be distant in space or time. It may be a metphoriacal journey, as long as it is significant.
