Recycling in Jewelry

Depois de postar sobre  Urban Mining, e coincidentemente a abertura do  Jahara Studio e seus trabalhos com plástico, parece que procurar trabalhos que utilizem reciclados seja um bom tema para esse mes. Encontrei o trabalho de Bridget Catchpole, do Canada, e seu interessante discurso sobre o consumo:

"Cosméticos vazios e embalagens de produtos de beleza são transformados e manipulados em formas amorfas usando um aquecedor e/ou succção de ar atraves de um  vacuum former improvisado no estudio.
Mantendo pouco da forma e função original esses plasticos retrabalhados se tornam simbólicos. A propaganda se coloca como solução para o nosso sentimento de bem estar interno atraves de alterações fisicas.Assim o lixo dos cosmeticos são análogos ao jogar fora a beleza natural."

After posting about Urban Mining, coincidently was the opening of Jahara Studio and its plastic works's,  it seems the looking for reclyced jewelry would be a nice theme for this month. I found out the work of Bridget Catchpole, from Canada, and its interesting speech about consumption:

"Empty cosmetic and beauty product containers are transformed and manipulated into prickly and bumpy amorphous shapes using a heat gun and/or air suction from a small studio constructed vacuum former.
Retaining little of its original shape and function the reworked plastic becomes symbolic. Popular advertising fallaciously represents itself to mend the western cultural dichotomy between physical and inner beauty. It appears to “remedy” our inner sense of well being through physical alterations. Thus the physical garbage of the cosmetic containers are analogous to the throwing away of our natural beauty. "
