Ugly Objects

Natalya Pinchuk é professora da School of the Arts Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, nos Estados Unidos e criadora do projeto Ugly Objects que teve sua primeira edição nos Estados Unidos. No projeto os estudantes da universidade de Richmond recebiam objetos que eram consideravam feios pelos moradores e tinham que transforma-los.

Ela levou para Amsterdam o projeto (together with Dana Sperry). Elas estavam interessadas em colecionar historias sobre como as pessoas chegam a conclusão de que um objeto é feio. A Reflexão sobre o feio possa ser um meio para saber um pouco mais sobre o que rege nossos valores sociais e estéticos.

Veja na foto o desafio que Ela Bauer teve que lidar. No site ainda não foi publicada a fotos do objeto final, mas a exposição ja tem dia marcado para começar: dia 12 de Dezembro na Openbare Bibliotheek de Amsterdam.



Natalya Pinchuk teaches at the School of the Arts Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, US and she created the project Ugly Objects with its first edition in the US. Richmond's students received ugly object from people of the city and they had to transform them.


She took the project to Amsterdam (together with Dana Sperry). They were interested in collecting stories of how people get to the conclusion that an object should be considered ugly. To think about how people decide about uglyness may give us insights about our social and esthetic values.


In the pic, Ela Bauer's challenge. There is not (until today) the final piece in the site. But the exhibition has already an opening date: december 12 at the Openbare Bibliotheek de Amsterdam.
